Allegheny Brass Band

Paul Halliwell | Cornet

Paul HalliwellPaul Halliwell joined the band in 2007.  Paul studied the French Horn while in school and actually considered making music his career.  Instead he chose a career in applied mathematics, eventually becoming an actuary.  In 1986 Halliwell returned to music in order to “play duets” with his son, Andrew.  It was at that time he began taking trumpet lessons from nationally known Anthony Pasquarelli.  He still takes an occasional lesson and remains close friends with the “Boss” and his wife, Alice.

Halliwell also performs with the Community Band South (CBS), a 70 piece concert band under the direction of James Bennett and Dean Streator.  He has been with this group since its inception more than 20 years ago.  He currently plays a gold plated Severinsen-Akright cornet and a Scodwell trumpet.

In 1973 Halliwell founded the Halliwell Consulting Group, a company that employed more that 50 people and provided actuarial consulting services to private, governmental and labor benefit plans.  Today his consulting is concentrated almost exclusively in the area of litigation support on matters involving economic damages.  He is also an affiliated consultant with Cowden & Associates, a regional benefit consulting firm located in Pittsburgh.  He also has remained active in the community and continues to serve on the board of St. Clair Memorial Hospital.  He was also a long term director of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and for several years was a director of the River City Brass Band.

Halliwell was raised in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School (1957) and from Ohio University (1961).  He currently lives in Upper St. Clair with his wife, Susan.  Paul and Susan have four children (Megan, Andrew, Lucas and Jessica) as well as four grandchildren.
